The House of Death and Pestilence....... IT'S ALIVE!!!

The month of October was not much fun in our house. Between Bug being sick off and on most of the time, Bitty having scary choking episodes because of her reflux (we've since up'ed her meds and she is doing better.....not perfect but most reflux babies are never perfect per se....), Bug falling down the last few basement steps at my mom's (she was fine...had a mild concussion but was fine otherwise), David getting sick with a severe head cold and a double ear infection and then with me winding up with strep and bronchitis (at the same time!) I was about ready to throw in the towel!

Thankfully the week of Halloween we were at least all somewhat healthy and able to enjoy trick-or-treat. Then yesterday Bug woke up with a 102 degree fever and a stuffy nose.....she seems to be in good spirits but is a bit clingy and whiny and just all around doesn't feel all that great. Right now Ems seems to be doing well *knock on wood* and her little reflux "episodes" aren't as frequent or as severe as they were before we increased her meds. I have yet to move her back to her bassinet though; I'm not sure i want her further away than the foot of our bed just in case. (she had to sleep in her bouncy seat for a few weeks after her choking episodes and has since graduated to the foot of our bed in her moses basket)

At Emilie's 2 month check up she weighed a whopping 8# 10oz!!! Dr. Kern was very pleased with her weight gain and said she looks great. She is either very active or completely zonked out. She enjoys spending time on her playmat and hitting the stuff hanging from it. She smiles and coos at us. She really really likes all of my dolls. She will sit and talk to them and coo at them and smile at them. She holds her head up very well and can push up on her forearms. She actually can roll from her tummy to her back already without any prompting from us. The first time i thought it was a fluke but she's done it numerous times since then. (this is very good milestone-wise considering she's a preemie and her adjusted age only puts her at 7 weeks....) She is finally starting to fit in a few of her 0-3 months things but is mostly still in newborn clothes. For the most part when Ems is feeling good (meaning no reflux issues or gas issues) she's very laid back and goes with the flow. However, you leave her alone in a room for more than a few minutes while she is awake and she makes it known that she is not happy at being left behind.

Bug is busy busy busy. (Some days there are moments where I actually miss and appreciate just how quiet the hospital actually was.....) She's been playing with her dolls a lot lately; and tries to pair up her animals with mommies and babies a good portion of the time. She is also quite ornery and declares that many things (usually when she is getting into trouble) are "not fair!" lately. Usually she after declaring that whatever it is wasn't fair she will cross her arms, turn away from you and "hmpf!" She also delights in telling us "No!" or "I won't!" lately. (The "no" is practically a one way ticket to the time-out corner....)

Her most recent crimes include:

* coloring the walls with a "washable" marker. (Washable my ass! I bet crayola wasn't planning on the markers being used on flat contractor paint and soaking into the drywall underneath.....)On a positive note the circles she made are very well drawn.

* We have been making haphazard attempts at the potty training thing lately. Just this passed week I had finished changing her diaper and had sent her off to the bathroom (naked of course) so she could take a bath. David had been taking a shower and had locked the door so she couldn't get in. (it's either this or you end up going to the bathroom or showering with three cats and toddler....at this point privacy is a luxury) Anyway, i was thinking to myself as I followed her into the bedroom "at least we're at a point where i don't have to worry about her peeing on the floor....." when I get into our bedroom I notice that the carpet where she is standing is wet. Of course!!!! When i asked her why she peed on the floor her response was "Because I can." Can someone please tell me what my response to that was supposed to be?

* again another incident with a "washable" crayon. (this time it truly was washable though) She colored with a red crayon (of course it had to be red....it's couldn't possibly have been a more subtle color....) on the walls and on her little peddle car. Again when i asked her why she did it her response was: "Because I can." o_O WTF? Children her age are not supposed to have such profoundly philosophical answers. We are so screwed when she's a teenager......

Halloween was so much fun around here. Bug decided she wanted to be a witch again this year. (her choice) And, I lucked out and found a cute little black cat costume for Emilie. Dee Dee, Nanny, Papa, Uncle Josh, Mrs. Cole (Josh's girlfriend Nicole), Mimi, Grandpa Terry, and Uncle Logan all came up and partied with us. A good time was had by all. (Today i took down the Halloween decorations and Bug informed me that now I had to put the Christmas tree up....)

Picture time!!!!

Evelyn chose her witch costume over this Tinkerbell one for Halloween. However, when the new Tinkerbell movie came out (which she LOVED and was a lifesaver yesterday when the Satellite was out and she was sick and wanted to do nothing but lay on the couch) she really enjoys running around the house in it pretending to be a fairy.

This is Bug's newest trick. She'll purposely do this when you're trying to take a picture of her. Attractive isn't it? If she keeps this up we just won't be able to keep the boys from calling when she's 16.......

Emilie was super cute during one of her recent baths. She really looks like Bug in the first pic.

Holy Crap! is that a picture of Jens?!?!?! (Albeit a not so flattering one) Hell surely must have frozen over....... Emilie just looked so super cute in her kitty costume. And Bug makes such a Darling witch.

Here's the evidence from the "Marker Incident"

The circles are in the dining room. The other picture is in the living room and is probably about 1 ft x 3ft in size

The little side table and the perpetrator herself. You can't tell but she actually has blue all over her face and mouth from actually attempting to suck on the marker...... *eyeroll*

Random Pics for August

Not a whole lot going on, but thought I'd throw up some pics.

There is one in there of Emilie after her first bath, which she did great. No crying or screaming.

Others are from a local metro park we like to go to. Evelyn was having some fun while Emilie was being fed.

Phrases I've uttered recently:

Yes, so I've been MIA for a few months and let me assure you all it was not planned. I'll give a somewhat detailed explanation at a later date, but I assume most of you all know I wound up in the hospital for 3 weeks before Ems was born due to pre-eclampsia. (with a short 3 day vacation at home....) David's done most of the blog work lately, which i am totally Ok with right now. I don't think I have the functioning brain capacity to come up with anything witty right now. Anyway, it's been interesting around here lately. But, with the hour being as late as it is and Ems most definitely starting to remind me that it's closing in on her 1 AM feeding I'll make this quick.

1) Emilie went in for a weight check on Tuesday and she now weighs 5# 11oz!!! Yes, the Dr. was most surprised and quite pleased she was doing so well. I was shocked because I definitely didn't expect her to gain over a pound. That preemie formula really does the job. (She still looks like *Starvin' Marvin' when naked though; albeit not as dark skinned.) She does seem to be developing the reflux though which isn't a big deal it just means she gets to take prevacid like Bug did. It takes a few days for the meds to work but hopefully by this weekend we'll start seeing some improvement. :)

2)The fun things I've uttered this week:

"Evelyn stop licking the door!" (her response was; "But I'm cleaning it!" That's just peachy, toddler spit as Windex......)

"Evelyn don't let Emilie suck on your nose!!!!" (yeah totally never thought I'd say that in a million years....)

3) She routinely asks if she can "pet" Emilie. I'm not sure whether or not she realizes that Emilie isn't a cat.....
Oh and she tried to put me in time out today after I put her in time out......

*For those of you who don't know......Starvin' Marvin was a character on South Park. The four South Park boys decided to send in a donation to adopt a starving Ethiopian child hoping to in return receive a "teicho sports watch" in recognition of their donation. instead the company actually sends one of the kids instead of the watch. Cartman names him "Starvin' Marvin"

Zoo Trip

We actually went to the zoo before Labor Day, just didn't get the pictures posted. The day before going to the zoo Evelyn got a "big sister" gift of a ViewMaster. It immediately became a hit!!! The next day we had to take it to the zoo. Evelyn proceeded to take pictures with it of all the animals we saw. :) You can see it in both pictures.

We rode the carrousel, which Evelyn loves, sorry no pictures this time. At the aquarium we got to see the diver in the tank feeding the fishies. Still afraid to be up near the glass while the diver was immediately on the other side, but did finally go up to the glass. She got the diver to wave directly at her a few times, which she was excited about.

Happy Labor Day ... my pool!!!!

Today turned out to be a HOT one, so we cleaned up the pools and made a time of it. Evelyn started splashing and throwing her toys from one pool to the next, and constantly hopping back and forth between the two. Then moved on to her bubbles which she loves. Her little sister came out and had one of her many bottles (ugh ... every 3 hours). Daddy had put up the awning so Emilie was able to enjoy some shade with a very nice breeze, which I think she really enjoyed as she promptly fell asleep. :)

Later Mya and Carson came over to enjoy a swim and a trip or two down the slide into the pool. Mya is growing so fast, it's hard to believe she's a whole year younger than Evelyn. Carson wasted no time in doing what little boys do best in pools ... SPLASHING!!! While Mya didn't seem to mind at all, Evelyn chose to cheer Carson on from the relative safety of her chair under the awning. :)

I thought the first two of Carson were great. The first looks like he's laying on top of the water, while in the second he appears to be standing on the water.

Disclaimer: sorry that the pictures aren't the greatest, the darn camera man forgot to adjust the lighting settings from indoor to outdoor.

More pics of the girls

Our Girls

Can you tell them apart?

The left pic is Evelyn at 3 days, the right is Emilie at 5 days.

Emilie still continues to amaze us. Her head an neck control is very good especially for a premie. She'll actually hold her own head up when you're trying to burb her and look around.

During her first well baby check the doctor mentioned we'd probably only have 10-15 minutes of alert awake time with her because she's a tiny premie and would tire easily. Um, wrong. Emilie is commonly awake for periods up to 45-50 mins.

Evelyn continues to like to help us out, by overseeing Emilie's diaper changes, fetching her bottle or bink for us, etc.

During Jens incarceration Evelyn got to have several of her aunties come and spend some time with her (babysitting so daddy could get some work done). She got to go on walks, bike rides, visits to the park/playground. All around fun time, eh?, dunno why mommy didn't think it was so great a time.

Evelyn is finally starting to come out of her shell more and more. While she still is/can be incredibly shy (even around people she knows!!!) she's starting to engage in converstation with different people. The nurses all seem to love her, as she'd walk up to them and start a conversation.

And, thanks to Auntie Heather we have a foram infestation!!! I seem to be the one most affected by this, as Evelyn continually is able to pull forams out of my hair (of all places). For those of you who don't know, a foram is a microscopic oceanic lifeform.

Everyone's a critic ...

Seems no one liked my initial picture posting of Emilie. :D Here are a few more pics. Enjoy.
